The Internet For Modern Christians
For those who may have – for whatever reason – eschewed the internet, sorry folks, until something to replace it comes along, we’re stuck with it; so, why not use it to its best advantage? It can be a very, very helpful servant.
Christians have been quick to capitalize on the internet to promote their faiths and businesses, and why not? With a click of a mouse or keypad, a message – perhaps a message of faith – will reach millions.
Adherents of the diverse faiths within the Christian religion are perhaps looking to deal with their own, and in these latter days, the internet serves that purpose more than adequately.
Advertising
As we are on the internet, we should at least begin with advertising. Advertising tells and sells. Imagine going into a supermarket and finding all of the packaged goods are packed in plain boxes and there is nothing to indicate what it is. Placing the manufacturer’s and brand name is a form of advertising. It tells.
Right or wrong, advertising has crept into the internet and like TV or radio commercials can be perceived by many to be invasive. Yet, it is necessary.
Christian companies have found it necessary to join the others in selling their goods or services on the idea that people are comfortable with their own. It is indeed reassuring to know that a fellow Christian is there to provide those goods or services.
There is one internet marketing company that specializes in Christian advertising. This company uses the net, wisely, to gain confidence and a share of business and yes, even charity and ministries donor acquisition.
In the past for years, this company has helped more than 2,000 clients with their special needs and has achieved some amazing results. The company has capitalized on both the web and facebook to help achieve these results. Yes, it is a reputable Christian company.
Education
Christian educational institutes use the ‘net to sell the idea of a Christian -based education be it school or university – and do it well. Some institutes even offer on-line courses, replacing the old correspondence courses prevalent in the early-mid twentieth century.
Dating
This is a dicey subject and for years, Christians have not overtly used this internet service. In fact to admit one met his/her partner or spouse on line was a no-no. One writer described it as ‘social suicide.’ Even today, to many of the extreme fundamental faiths, internet dating is a social taboo.
The steamrolling popularity of dating sites and its gaining popularity has given internet dating a couple of hikes up the social acceptance ladder and a few Christian websites mention their own ‘singles sites – not all are ‘dating’ sites per se.
For those who do not condemn the internet as being “another tool of Satan’ the web has opened up a whole new way of life; even the simple act of finding fellow Christian denominations in an area one may be vacationing in or visiting has become simpler.
Like most things, the internet must be used wisely; it’s so easy and human nature to want to explore. Just be aware of any pitfalls.
Christians and non-Christians alike will find the web a wonderful helpmate.
